Nominate a Youth

Dear Friends of MVYLI,

You are invited to nominate young people to serve as delegates to the 2013 Youth Leadership Summit.

Orientation • Wednesday May 3 at 2:15 pm @ MVRHS LCR

MVYLI youth will share their experiences.

MVYLI’s Youth Leadership Summit inspires, educates and empowers young people to take initiative in their lives and on their island. In this weeklong intensive leadership training youth delegates (ages 15-21) envision their personal, professional, island and planetary goals; and begin creating action plans for sustainability projects. The Summit begins with a Sustainable Vineyard Tour to learn first-hand about green projects on the Island. Youth delegates share best practices and lessons learned with islands of Hawaii and Puerto Rico. MVYLI youth share their progress during the last year and inspire a new batch of young people to realize their dreams. Our faculty includes the Institute’s leaders, the Vineyard’s sustainable champions, and seasoned youth leaders from other youth leadership initiatives. We will produce a video on their dreams for their lives, the Island and the world.

MVYLI’s Youth Leadership Summit • June 22-29, 2013

MVYLI’s year-round Fellowship builds on the youth’s goals from the Youth Leadership Summit and provides youth with leadership opportunities including the Job Shadow Day, College Prep & Field Program, Sustainability-In-Action Projects like the Multicultural Assembly, Sustainable Vineyard Map & 2020 Report; internships with Martha’s Vineyard Community Television. Bioneers-By-the Bay Conference. MVYLI members are on the Governor’s Youth Council. We conduct weekly coaching and monthly workshops on college planning, career development, service learning projects for their island and the world. Young people are nominated by non-profit organizations, schools and community leaders to serve as delegates. We then develop projects with nominating organizations during the year. MVYLI is a program of the Stone Soup Leadership Institute. The Walter Cronkite Awards Ceremony is August 8 at the Old Whaling Church. Please think about young people who have the potential to be leaders – imagine if they could have this experience! Together we will prepare a new generation of leaders for the Vineyard and the world.
